A part-time monastery cook for the Discalced Carmelite Friars is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious daily meals for the religious community. This role blends traditional culinary skills with mindful service, requiring adherence to communal dietary guidelines and the maintenance of a peaceful, highly sanitized kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
Menu Planning: Create weekly or monthly menus that balance nutrition, seasonal ingredients, and community traditions.
Meal Preparation: Handle all phases of food prep, from chopping and mixing to baking and plating dinner and to prepare lunch for the next day.
Special Diets & Fasting: Adapt recipes to accommodate the community's health needs and traditional monastic fasting/abstinence practices.
Kitchen Sanitation: Maintain rigorous cleanliness and safety standards, ensuring full compliance with local food safety regulations.
Hours: Generally from 2:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. or after clean up.

Environment: The role requires working in and maintaining a quiet, prayerful, and respectful environment.
Experience: Previous experience in professional cooking, catering, or culinary arts is generally required but not necessary
