At the request of Cardinal Seán O’Malley, parishes across the Archdiocese will announce the 2024 Catholic Appeal during all masses on the weekend of March 2-3. Commitment Weekend, during which thousands of Catholics from across the archdiocese are asked to provide their philanthropic support, takes place the following weekend, March 9-10. Each gift to the Appeal provides essential funding to the many ministries, schools, and parishes that grow vibrant communities of faith and fulfill Christ’s mission to help the most isolated and vulnerable.
When speaking of the Catholic Appeal, Cardinal Seán has said that “our mission of evangelization, our works of mercy, our service to the poor, the sick, support for vocations, and in support of life depends on the generosity of Catholics across the Archdiocese. It is in our common mission to advance the lifesaving ministry of Jesus that we can build communities of love. It is these virtues that help the Church provide aid and attention to areas of greatest need across our many communities.”
The Catholic Appeal fortifies parishes, serves thousands of lives through essential ministries, and sustains vocation programs where the next generation of Catholics is formed.
Gavan P. Mooney, Chief Philanthropy Officer for the Archdiocese of Boston, said, “The Catholic Appeal is a collective opportunity to demonstrate our shared strength as Catholics to uphold Catholic values and help our parishes, schools, and ministries to serve the needs of thousands across the Archdiocese. The greater the participation, the greater the impact we can have on the lives of others.”
The Chairs of the 2024 Catholic Appeal are John and Julie Corcoran, parishioners of St. Paul Parish in Hamilton, MA.
“As Chairs of the Appeal, we have seen first-hand the tremendous outpouring of generosity of our faithful and the impact that it has on the lives of thousands. We hope there will be extraordinary participation this year so that we can meet the urgency of need in our communities.”
The Catholic Appeal funds nearly 50% of the Archdiocese of Boston’s budget. The remainder is funded by other philanthropic sources and fees for various services, programs, and resources.
